Cycled to Box Hill, because from the toposcope you can see the whole town of Dorking. Sat on bench and repeatedly called 145.500 to no avail.  Started to scan and got half a conversation (man reminiscing about the day he and his newly-wed went into a pub, back in the days when it was rare for a damsel to be seen in a pub). When he stopped talking my handset resumed scanning, but I had not noted the freq. and could not find again. Cycling back to Wallington over the Telegraph Track — seemed an auspicious place to try again, initially to no avail. Then coming down Boundary Road I tried again and heard my callsign confirmed! Cycled up a few roads to get higher. Ended up speaking to:- Pat G4FDN Carshalton Beeches Adam G7CRQ South Wallington I learnt about the Surrey Radio Contact Club  who will have a meeting Monday 15 Nov.
